...Mondays

So this set is unlike anything you've heard from me before. This time around I really dug in the crates to get some really unique tunes. I worked mostly with broken beat and jazz on this set, but I threw in a little dub and some house, and even hip hop into this mix. So please open your mind, download the set, and I hope you will enjoy it.

reezun & sobz - Culture Shock

My boy sobz from Toronto sent me a short set that he worked on back in August 2009 for our second collaboration mix. As you must've noticed, I haven't been very productive in the past few months; just crazy busy. But I finally got it all down and here it is, folks!

sobz actually came down to Miami to visit last December. We checked out a party where a local reggae band called Kulcha Shok was playing, and since our styles are pretty different, we thought Culture Shock was a suitable name for this collabo. The picture for the cover was taken at that party.

Green

It has definitely been a while since I've posted one of my sets. This is one that has been in the works for a while and I've been compiling the tracks over the summer. I mixed this one down completely on Ableton Live 8; which is an amazing software suite.

I included two Henrik Schwarz remixes in this set--both are masterful. I especially love his rendition of Sheharzad's Yalla Yalla. The arrangements are just flawless. If you get a chance, listen to the original just so you can have an idea of how creative Schwarz really is. Not to take anything away from Yes Maam, though, which is such a fun song. All in all, there is a good mix of styles as well as vocal and instrumental tracks, so I hope you check it out and enjoy.

Ups & Downs

This is a set I worked on a few weeks back that I finally got around to posting. This time around, the focus is on more soulful, vocal house, with some wonderful elements of jazz and funk.

I'm really feeling the original version of South African producer Black Coffee's Turn Me On--great vocals by Bucie. The Raw Artistic Soul Vocal Dub in the same release is also fantastic. The collaboration--Sweat No Sleep--between Atjazz and Mark de Clive-Lowe is simply ridiculous!! I can't get enough of it. Osunlade's Momma's Groove is an absolute dance-floor killer. I just love the vibe in Spinna's and Ovasoul7's You Should Be Loving Me. I think technically, this is my best set so far. I kept the harmonics working as much as possible and the progression makes a lot of sense to me. Just check it out and see for yourself.

01. Atjazz - Before [feat. Clara Hill] (Mantis Recordings)
02. Atjazz & Mark de Clive Lowe - Sweat No Sleep (Mantis Recordings)
03. Lovebirds - Gentle (Teardrop)
04. DJ Roland Clark - Goodbye Love [SC Vox] (Kings Street)

06. Black Coffee - Turn Me On [feat. Bucie] (GOGO Music)
07. Mustafa - Aqui Se Faz, Aqui Se Paga [Groove Assassin's Sunshine Mix] (Staff Productions)
08. Osunlade - Momma's Groove [Jimpster's Hip Replacement Mix] (d:vision)
09. DJ Spinna & Ovasoul7 - You Should Be Loving Me [Dennis Ferrer Remix] (Wonderwax)

Lost Ideals

New year, new beginning, new hope, new music...

What better way to start your year than with a new set of blissfully deep and soulful house compiled and mixed by yours truly? This one was compiled over a few months and holds a few of my favorite tunes that I heard towards the end of 2008.

My absolute favorite in that period has been the Motorcity Soul Remix of Solomun & Stimming's Eiszauber. I even made it my ringtone. Both Cassady Locke productions, Ojo and 1968, are off the chain--beautifully done. Ojo has a jazzy, Latin feel to it and follows a masterful progression. 1968 is deliciously deep and has a nice Martin Luther King sample that takes you into the breaks. Both Rocco remixes are amazing. Hiya Kaya has great vocals laced on an almost tribal beats and the Cloudkickers version of The Police's Bring on the Night is exceptional. I'm really feeling the bass line in The Elements of Life's Into My Life and the synth riff always gives me goosebumps. The Apologist's The World as We Want It has an ethereal feel to it and was the inspiration to the album artwork. Is there a way to end the vicious cycle?

As usual, with the way I encoded the AAC file, you have the ability to skip back-and-forth between the tracks. Without further ado, here's the tracklisting:

01. Chymera - Ellipsis (Figure)
02. Soul Creation - You're Special [Ralf Gum GOGO Music Vocal Mix, feat. Stephanie Cooke] (Foliage Records)
03. DJ Ringardos - Was Better in 88 (Versatile Records)
04. Cassady Locke - Ojo (Esho Recordings)
05. DJ Dealer - Joyride [Matthew Bandy Remix, feat. Charles Dockins] (Look At You Records)
06. The Elements of Life - Into My Life [Main Mix, feat. Lisa Fischer & Cindy Mizelle] (Vega Records)
07. Kentphonic - Hiya Kaya (Soul Candi Blue)
08. Cloudkickers - Bring on the Night [Rocco TroDeep Remix, feat. Marcus] (Newlite Muzik)
09. Apologist - The World as We Want It (Wave Music)
10. Cassady Locke - 1968 (Esho Recordings)
11. Solomun & Stimming - Eiszauber [Motorcitysoul Remix] (Diynamic)
12. Ozgur Can & AGS - Music in Passion (Save Me Records)
